Sutton's Bay Residence

Sutton's Bay, Michigan

This complete renovation of a turn of the century farmhouse in Leelanau County provided the owners a serene, comfortable residence in which to live. Craftsman style detailing of eyebrow windows, porch turret and rail system, cobblestone foundation, and cottage style windows are reminiscent of the “Arts and Crafts” vernacular. The interior of the residence was completely gutted with new mudroom, wood paneling, kitchen cabinetry, and bathroom fixtures renovated. Walk-around porch with centralized turret, three sided living room, and back office space were added to the main level footprint of the existing house. A new master bath space with combination jacuzzi tub and shower were added to the upper level as well. An eyebrow arched roof/ window system in the master bedroom was added for cross ventilation and additional daylight and views. A quaint exterior balcony overlooks farmer’s fields to the west. New exterior shake shingle siding, infill insulation and complete re-roofing occurred in the renovation. All the added components created an excellent fit without overpowering the existing architecture.
